Fun, Inexpensive Activities to Keep Your Toddler Busy
Oct 17, 2024Looking for some fun on a budget? LOOK NO FURTHER! Keep reading for activities with items you can find at the dollar store!
Easter eggs… Not just for egg hunts (but those are fun too). Let the kids mix and match them to create their own eggs or maybe decorate with stickers. Looking for something different? Fill eggs with puzzle pieces and send the kids looking for all the eggs. They’ll know they’ve found them all when the puzzle is complete! If your kids are a bit older, fill the eggs with different objects and have them hypothesize whether it will sink or float in a tub of water!
Spray bottle fun!… Use markers to color on coffee filters. When the artist is finished coloring, have them use a spray bottle to spray the coffee filter. This gives the coffee filter a fun tie-dye effect! If your child isn’t as into arts and crafts, they can also give their toys a bath! Fill a tub with a bit of water and some soap and throw those trucks (or some other plastic toy) in! The kids can use the spray bottle to get them all clean! Kids love water play, and playing with the spray bottle is an easy way to bring that water fun indoors when the weather gets chilly!
Sensory bins… The dollar store is a great place to get items for your sensory bins. Sensory bins are just large flat containers filled with different items that stimulate the senses. Sensory bins can be as easy or intricate as you wish. Items that can be found in the dollar store include: dried beans, sand, rocks, cotton, shaving cream, rice, measuring cups and spoons, and funnels! For the fall you can throw in some fall items like tiny pumpkins, fake leaves or maybe dirt and some small toys to create a Halloween bin!
Slime... Yes, you can get all the items you need to make slime at the dollar store. All you’ll need is Elmer’s glue and contact solution! From there you can add coloring to it, glitter, or leave it as is! Slime is always a fan favorite.
We hope you can grab some of these items and try them out with your kiddo! Happy playing!
